Today’s Aliyah

Dvar Torah for Korach 2nd Aliyah

Dasan and Aviram irrationally claimed that G-d took the people out of a land flowing with milk and honey to murder them in the desert (16:13). To make matters worse, they then insist that G-d has not brought us to His land nor given the land as an inheritance (16:14). How could they make such outrageous claims and shamelessly think that they are correct?

Oznayim LaTorah proposes that this entire episode was caused by divergent perspectives. While Korach, Dasan, Aviram, and the other rebels had differing agendas, they all shared a negative, completely warped view of their situation. The rebels’ reality became altogether opposite from the truth; in their minds, the land that enslaved them became flowing with milk and honey. This episode highlights not only how negative perspectives can turn positive realities into negative ones but also how positive perspectives can light the way and shine brightly on our lives, perspectives, and futures.
